As an Elementalist you will focus more on damage spells than other wizards and can amplify the damage you deal to very high levels. With your large variety of elemental spells, you will always have the option of hitting opponents with the one element that deals the most damage to them. You will, however, have fewer helpful spells with which to protect yourself or assist allies.
Because you will deal a lot of damage, you will attract a lot of enemy attention. There will be times when you will need to rely on your allies to block or immobilize enemies to keep them from damaging you too much.
