Frequently Asked Questions

General

Q: What is the Compendium?

A: The DDO Compendium is a wiki – a searchable database connected to the game itself. It includes contributions from both Turbine and players about the game. Any player that has an active DDO game subscription can log into the Compendium to participate! This includes adding on to official game entries, creating new pages, and editing user-created information and pages. The Compendium is ever changing and frequently updated by Turbine and the DDO community, making it an evolving and growing resource for game information.

Q: What type of information can I find in the Compendium?

A: There are a variety of topics available in the Compendium, but to name a few:

This information continues to expand, so be on the lookout for updates and news related to the Compendium. You can also visit the Recent Changes page to see the most recent additions by players or Turbine staff!

Q: How do I use the Compendium?

A: If you would like to contribute to the Compendium, sign in using your DDO forum login to edit or add to entries, and join in discussion pages. If you're having difficulty accessing the Compendium, you may want to read "I'm having trouble logging in the Compendium, what am I doing wrong?" You can also contact a member of our Community team for assistance, or use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the DDO forums.

Q: Do I need an active DDO account to view / use the Compendium?

A: Anyone can view the Compendium, but editing privileges are reserved for Premium and VIP DDO users. You must have an active forum account in good standing, and you must be logged into the Compendium to use its features. If you've not yet established your forum account, please visit http://myaccount.turbine.com to create one!

Q: Do the Code of Conduct, Terms of Service, and Forum Guidelines apply to the Compendium too?

A: All Turbine policies - including the Terms of Service, Forum Guidelines, and Player Code of Conduct - apply to user activities in the Compendium. Additionally, misbehavior on the forums can be grounds for a ban from both the forums and the Compendium, and vice versa. Note that when appending additional detail (or any information), you must not steal other people's copyrighted information and graphics. If you have found useful information on another site, the safest course is to simply include a link to the information on that other site. If you prefer to copy that information into the Compendium, you must first check that other site's copyright and fair use terms and comply with them.

Reading/Making Changes

Q: What is the difference between text appearing in the "Official Game Entry" section and text appearing below an Official Game Entry?

A: Information appearing with the heading "Official Game Entry" comes directly from Turbine - largely from the game database itself. Information appearing below an official game entry has been added by the community. You can always check the history of a page to determine the origin of an article, and who has been making what contributions!

Q: How can I edit information that appears in an "Official Game Entry"?

A: The “official game entry'” section at the top each page will remain uneditable by users. This information comes straight from the game data files and should not be edited. In the case of 'official' information that is lacking in useful detail, user-created information can be added to the article after the tags that surround the official section. This added information will appear immediately beneath the official entry. This allows players to know what comes right from the game and what is provided by the community. Watch for continued additions to Official Game Entry data as we make improvements and updates to the Compendium!

Q: I see incorrect information in an Official Game Entry, how do I notify Turbine?

A: If you see an Official Game Entry with incorrect information, or that requires attention from one of the Turbine staff members, you can use the "Report Article" option to notify us. The Report Article option is available at the top of the article page in red, and has a red and white yield sign. This feature can also be used if you find an article that is in violation of our Guidelines, Terms of Service, or Player Code of Conduct. Please note that it may take time for us to update/remove the article after it has been reported, and in some cases, the data may be the result of a bug in the Compendium that requires further work by the team. Please also be sure to check the article to see if another user has added the information already. The Report Article feature is only available to users who are logged into the Compendium.

Q: I see incomplete information in an Official Game Entry. Will more information be available later?

A: We will continue to add to the Compendium and expand on the information available in it, and our players also frequently add helpful information to the Compendium. The Compendium is typically updated during new modules to coincide with game changes and additions, so be on the lookout for announcements regarding new features in the Compendium. You can also check the "Recent Changes" page to see what new information has been added recently by Turbine or by the users!

Q: How can I report a bug in the Compendium, and what qualifies as a reportable bug?

A: Generally speaking, you should use the "Report Article" feature at the top of an article page to alert us about incorrect information, rather than using the bug reporting tool. Reserve the bug reporting form for times when there is an error in the Compendium that can't be corrected by an add/edit/removal on the part of users and/or the Turbine staff. If you have a bug you would like to report, please visit our bug reporting form.

Troubleshooting

Q: I'm having trouble logging in the Compendium, what am I doing wrong?

A: If you're having trouble accessing the Compendium, it may be due to the following reasons:

  • Be sure you are using the information you use to access the forums, not to log into the game. If you don't have a forum account, you'll need to establish one at http://myaccount.turbine.com. Remember that forum accounts are only provided to users with an active DDO game account.
  • Double check that you are typing your password correctly, and make sure your caps-lock / num lock keys are set properly. Be sure to type your password exactly the same as you would to log into the forums, including any special characters.
  • In rare cases, the Compendium may have retained an older version of your forum password. Try using any previous versions of your password to log into the Compendium.
  • Due to a change in naming behavior, the Compendium cannot allow names with special characters or spaces. Users who had existing names with spaces were converted to underscores. If your name had a space in it, try logging in using an underscore instead. If your name contained special characters, you may need to contact the support team to correct the issue. You can contact the support team through our support page by clicking here.
  • Remember that user accounts that have been banned from the game or forums are banned from logging into the Compendium as well.
  • If your account is incorrectly marked as "expired" it can result in an error. To check the status of your account, or to reinstate your account, visit http://myaccount.turbine.com
  • Free accounts are able to view the Compendium, but editing privileges in the Compendium are reserved for Premium and VIP accounts.

If you are still experiencing difficulty logging into the Compendium, please contact a member of our Community Team or submit a ticket by clicking here.

Q: I updated a page, but the changes don't show, how can I fix this?

A: Here are some tips for users experiencing difficulty with page edits

  • When you've made a change to a page, be sure you are logged in to the Compendium. Your session may have expired while you were making edits to the page.
  • When previewing changes, don't forget to save them! Edits/additions to a page that you view in preview have not yet taken effect unless you save the page.
  • Entries appearing in “noedit” and “official” tags cannot be altered. Also remember that some pages can be protected, which prevents the page from being updated. Remember that you can discuss protected pages in the Discussion page of the article. The Discussion tab appears at the top of the page next to the Article tab.
  • Once you've saved a page, you may want to clear your browser's cache and reload the page before the changes will appear.
  • There is a rare chance that you may be editing a page that someone else is editing too. Check the history tab of the page to see who else is making contributions.

Still having trouble? Contact a member of our Community Team, or submit a ticket by clicking here for further assistance.

Q: Some pages won't allow me to add to them, why is that?

A: Pages that are protected will not allow users to add to them. However, you can always visit the article's Discussion page! The discussion page is located at the top of an article next to the "Article" tab. Click on the "Discussion" tab to interact with other users talking about the article.
