Editing Existing Compendium Pages

From DDO Compendium

Sometimes you might want to edit an existing page. It might be because you found something incorrect, or a typo, or maybe you had additional information to contribute. There are a couple things to remember when you want to edit an existing page in the Compendium

Editing Official pages

Anything you see under the "Official Game Entry" banner is something that comes directly from the game itself, or from Turbine officially. If you'd like to edit one of these pages, you can do the following things:

  • If you see an error in an official article, use the "Report Article" button at the top of the page to let the Turbine team know! The Compendium team will work to fix the error. Keep in mind that sometimes the error might be in the game data itself, which may take longer for them to fix.
  • If you have more information about an official entry, hit the "edit" and you can add extra information. Your information will appear below the "official" section in the "Player entry" section. This is great for times when you'd like to provide even more tips and information about an official entry!
  • Sometimes you might have something you want to add, but it's an opinion and not necessarily a game fact. These are great for the Discussion tab! If you click on the discussion tab, you can enter your discussion comment followed by the following code, which will attach your name to your comment: ~~~~

Official entries can't be directly edited by users, but you can add to the page, and if something is wrong with the page, report the article so the Compendium team can fix it! The discussion tab is a great place to share and discuss opinions about something covered in the article!

Editing Player made pages

Remember that when you create a page, anyone can also edit your page, and you can edit other people's pages too. You should try and only make changes to a page that help to enhance the article. Most people won't mind you fixing a spelling error or updating a broken link, but in some cases you may have more significant changes/additions to make to a page. Here are a few things to remember:

  • If you have a lengthy discussion/debate, you should take that discussion to the Community Forums in the Compendium Discussion forum. Remember that if you have a Compendium login, you have a forum login too! Feel free to use the discussion tab to link to a discussion forum thread about the article!
  • Generally speaking, you should try to be polite and help the original creator to keep up-to-date information, or fix grammatical errors and typos.
  • If you have something you'd like to contribute to their page that is more opinion than fact, be sure to use the discussion tab of their page to talk about it.
  • You can also contact other users via PM on the forums - remember that your forum account and Compendium account are the same name!
  • If you have a major change to make to pages, talk with other page contributors in the discussion tab, or at the DDO forums, to make sure everyone agrees with the changes.
  • The Compendium follows the same rules as the DDO Community forums, so make sure that your updates and changes are within forum guidelines, and are respectful to other community members.

It is a good idea to learn some of the basics about wiki before attempting to edit a page, especially if you're not sure how to use some of the more advanced formatting codes. If you make a mistake though, you can undo your changes by using the History option at the top of the page to change the page back to a previous version.
