Discussion Tabs And You
From DDO Compendium
Discussion tabs are a great way to share information that is opinion based, or hash out ideas with other page contributors! Every article has a discussion tab. To access it, just click on "Discussion" and you can see what is being talked about. You can even join in the discussion using the "edit" button (make sure you're in the discussion tab when you click edit or you'll accidentally start to edit the article page).
It's a good idea in the discussion tab to sign your comment so that others know who said it. Signing your comment is very easy! Just use the following code:~~~~
When you place the four tildes "~~~~" after your comment, the Compendium will automatically stamp your name onto the comment. This is especially useful if your discussion is going back and forth with other people in the discussion tab. Just add your comment below the person above you, like a forum thread almost.
It's very important to use the discussion tab in the following situations:
- You have something to say about a topic that is based on opinion and not actual facts about the topic
- You want to analyze or do some number crunching with others
- You're thinking about adding a large chunk of information or changing the format of an existing page. Make sure everyone else agrees with your proposed changes by talking about it in the discussion tab.
Sometimes you might have a very heated or lengthy debate. For situations like this, it's better to create a thread at the community forum. You can create a link in the talk page to your forum thread so others can join in the discussion and keep the talk page from becoming too difficult to follow.
Using the discussion tab helps to bring page editors together to talk about ways they can improve a page! It's also a great place to offer advice that not everyone might agree with. A good example is:
Let's say you wanted to tell everyone that you think playing a warforged is the best race in the game! "Best" is a matter of opinion, so you could use the discussion tab to express why you love them, and let others draw their own conclusions. Others might also want to say why they too enjoy warforged, and they can also add to the discussion tab their additional reasons! If the discussion gets too lengthy, you may want to move over to the community forums to help keep the talk page from getting too confusing. Just add a link to the page to your thread on the forums. Remember anyone who has a compendium login has a forum login too!
